Welcoming Jo Simpson as Associate at John M Lewis

Welcoming Jo as Associate at John M Lewis

Jo joined the team at John M Lewis in January 2018 as a Legal Executive and we now welcome her as Associate.

Jo started conveyancing life as a secretary and qualified in 2010 after studying with the Institute of Legal Executives. Originally from Stoke, Jo actually had her first job after finishing school as a civil servant working for the courts and has since moved around the country working for a number of legal firms. With over 20 years experience in conveyancing Jo moved to Derby in 2005.

Jo actually fell into conveyancing as she saw a job for a ‘Property Assistant’ and applied, having no previous experience. She realised it was working for a solicitors firm and having been successful at interview really loved the work. When asked what she would do instead of conveyancing, Jo once had thoughts about being an air traffic controller or an accountant. We think she is much better at conveyancing!

Jo classes herself as a morning person and often arrives early to work to concentrate on any particularly complicated cases, proving her dedication to her role and our clients. Jo prides herself on working closely with not just clients, but also local estate agents where she has built a great rapport with many firms who really value her expertise and communication to keep things progressing. For Jo it really is a two-way street where everyone is trying to achieve the same goal so communication is key.

Jo’s favourite thing about her job is when she gets to call clients and tell them the good news of completion and client’s happiness is paramount to Jo. Jo is currently competing for the LFS Awards ‘Conveyancer of the Year’ and client satisfaction is a key part in how the awards are judged. We are all keeping our fingers crossed for her for a win! To date, Jo’s proudest moment is when she won ‘student of the year’ whilst studying by achieving the highest mark overall by any other student on the course that year.

Jo’s biggest role model is her dad, who worked as a Managing Director for many years. Her dad really taught her about work ethic and how to carry herself professionally. Most of all he taught her to treat people how you would like to be treated, which we believe is why so many of her clients are happy and come back to her time and time again.

In her downtime from work Jo loves nothing more than holidaying and her favourite place for relaxing is Aruba where she hopes to visit again and for a more adventurous holiday you can’t beat Vegas. Alongside spin class and relaxing with friends, Jo enjoys spending time with her grandson who is currently just over 18 month’s old, he keeps her on her toes that’s for sure!

We are delighted to have Jo on board and she looks forward to welcoming clients old and new to our firm for many years to come. Congratulations Jo!

Cyber Essentials

John M Lewis & Co have just become certified with Cyber Essentials. This gives us a nationally recognised standard for cyber security and helps reassure our clients that we are working towards securing our IT against cyber attacks, among other things!

Cyber Essentials aims to help organisations implement basic levels of protection against cyber attack, demonstrating to their customers that they take cyber security seriously.

The five basic controls within Cyber Essentials were chosen because, when properly implemented, they will help to protect against unskilled internet-based attackers using commodity capabilities – which are freely available on the internet.

Organisations that undertake Cyber Essentials are encouraged to re-certify at least once a year and, where appropriate, progress their security.

Since 1 October 2014, Cyber Essentials became a minimum requirement for bidding for some government contracts
